In 2017 the Contemporary Art Society developed the cultural elements of a new Look & Feel Strategy for the City of London.
The Culture Mile programme, led by the City of London Corporation and comprising the Barbican, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London Symphony Orchestra and the Museum of London, aims to maximise the area’s rich heritage and cultural assets whilst delivering better wayfinding, signage, green spaces, lighting, public information and contemporary art installations.
The Contemporary Art Society joined a multidisciplinary team of consultants led by public realm strategists Fluid, working together to determine actions and recommendations for the key themes identified.
The Look & Feel Strategy focuses on creating a series of connected places, forming a world-renowned destination that relishes its contrasts and places culture at its heart. Whilst the Strategy undergoes public consultation, a programme of Quick Win cultural initiatives allows the ancient and the modern to collide as the streets are activated by exhibitions, gigs, pop-ups and events.
